Redefining the Nanny Cam

Hers is one of the most fascinating stories in recent photographic history and you can see her work at Jackson Fine Art, right here in Atlanta. Vivian Maier was a nanny in 1950′s Chicago who had a secret passion for street photography. Thousands of her negatives were found after her death, and her printed works are now being shown around the country.  This is an amazing opportunity to see her story unfold through her photographic works at a wonderful local gallery. The opening is tomorrow night, Friday, Jan 27, 2012 and the exhibit runs through April 7, 2012.

There are two other photographers showing at the opening tomorrow night: Chip Simone and Todd Murphy. This show is not to be missed.

Fine Art Friday

What are you doing this Friday night? There’s an incredible resource of 20th century and contemporary fine art photography waiting for you at Jackson Fine Art - a gem of an art gallery for Atlanta located in a little white house in Buckhead. This Friday night their September opening show features photographer Sally Mann and her show Proud Flesh. I will leave the show description to the experts above. But as someone who has been to this gallery before, I can at least point out that the openings are great opportunities to meet some of the giants in photography, and in this case Mann will be on hand to sign her book.  Trust me, too, when I say the gallery’s opening nights make a great date night. What’s more fun than wandering through gallery rooms and whispering about art?  It’s obvious here that the staff and owner are very knowledgeable and take great care in their work. On my personal list of important things to do is take one of gallery owner Anna Walker Skillman‘s courses on collecting photography.  See what I mean? Great resource. So, watch this space for more of their events. Or you can go straight to the source and watch their FB page or Twitter or Blog.

New and Improved For You

Please hold on….I’m working to make my site more unbelievably awesome than ever.  This might be a slow week, but there are a lot of exciting things happening behind the scenes. Hold tight!
